Foods That Are Dangerous for Cats and Dogs: What to Avoid

Many foods can cause health problems in cats and dogs, so it is important to know which ones to avoid.

Chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, coffee and alcoholic drinks are among the foods that can be harmful to cats and dogs. Chocolate can cause vomiting, diarrhea, seizures and even death. Grapes and raisins can cause acute kidney failure in dogs, while onions and garlic can cause anaemia. Coffee and alcoholic drinks may cause neurological and respiratory problems and can also be fatal.

Other potentially dangerous foods include avocado, pineapple, tomatoes, nuts, caffeinated products, dairy products, raw fish and raw or undercooked meat. Avocado can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Pineapple may irritate a dog’s mouth and throat, while tomatoes can cause gastrointestinal and heart problems. Nuts may cause digestive problems and can also present a choking risk.

Caffeinated products, including coffee, tea and soft drinks, can cause hyperactivity, muscle tremors, a rapid heartbeat and even seizures. Dairy products such as milk and cheese may cause diarrhea, as many cats and dogs are lactose intolerant. Raw fish and raw or undercooked meat may contain harmful bacteria and parasites.

Remember that a suitable diet is essential for your pet’s health and well-being.
